Decent food, good service and price. Don't stop in if you're looking for great taste but for a quick bite out, it's worth it. My husbands Reuben and my cavatelli were par for the course but the jalapeño poppers were fantastic.

If you want microwaved frozen food, this is the place to come. Price: About $16 for a pizza that might feed 2-3. Parking: Lot Service: Slow. Food: I ordered a medium pizza (they charge for each topping) and a side of french fries. The pizza sucked. It was quite bland and tough. The fries tasted like they were thrown in the microwave after being frozen. They were put in a paper bag for take out and by the time I got home, the bag was drenched in oil. Notes: I probably would avoid this place.

The food was really good! Ordered pizza and onion rings.. The waiter brought the onion rings out and says you order a couple onion oh it was just a couple alright.. We had to laugh wasn't more then a couple on the plate.. The inside is very outdated.. Very causal place..

I have to say I was pretty impressed by the food at Mustard's. The decor is lackluster and outdated, and the whole place feels the same, but the food was much better than the looks of the place. I ordered the steak sandwich (medium) and french fries. I have to say, I was skeptical of a steak sandwich from a place where I ordered upfront, but it was the best steak sandwich I've ever had. Period. It was cooked perfectly and the bread was the perfect mixture of soft and crunchy. I'm looking forward to going back.

Mustard's was good for some quick food. I wasn't super thrilled about the interior, seemed a bit dirty/dingy. I had mozzarella sticks (same ol', same ol' there) and their super nachos. That nacho plate is HUGE. my family really loved it though, liked the chili addition to it. My husband got fried mushrooms, which he liked. Salads are nothing spectacular but I assume most people come for the BBQ. my sister had the Cuban and liked that a lot, but said it needed more thousand island. All in all, just okay but gets the job done.

I have always ate at Mustards but my last three or four trips have not been the same. The service is awful. The group of girls working gather and talk all over the restraunt. Ever time I leave knowing all of the workers recent problems and latest gossip. This last experience they were all talking while a cook yelled for a food runner. They were so caught up in their conversation that no one bothered to get our food for over five minutes. Good food but rachet service from likewise employees.

I had the rib ticklers at lunch. As always good food and service. I will be going back there for more

Ribs are gr8! Service is gr8! But so called Chicago hot dog is an outrage! their hot dog is grilled, the Chicago is simmered. their bun is warm and dry, the Chicago is steamed. their peppers are chopped and mixed with onions and relish (which should be green), the Chicago has individual sport peppers. Stop calling this a Chicago dog!

Got the kds meal. I dont really know what else to say... I feel like I cant really justify this review based on what I ordered but im not ashamed of who I am. And neither is mustards I'd like to think. So yeah... four stars. The burger was pretty good and I got a bunch of fries too. All for under 5 bucks. I like that.

Grinder = yuck. Salad = iceberg only (even though claims of romaine). Pasta = yuck. Waitstaff = aloof. Overpriced too! Save your $$ and go elsewhere.

We recieved a Living Social coupon for this place so we decided to give it a try. I was expecting more of a restaurant type atmosphere but it was more fast casual. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food out to you. I had the chicken and ribs combo ($12 for a 1/4 chick with 4 ribs, fries, garlic bread, beans and some fry bread) I tried the ribs first beings they are "famous" for their ribs. They were overcooked and very dry. Tried the beans next, they tasted like chili beans from a can. The fries were average taste and nothing special. The only highlight of this meal was the chicken it was very good. Moist with good BBQ flavor. Maybe they should change their mantra to be "famous" for their chicken?!?! Probably will not be visiting Mustard's again. Definitely plenty of other great BBQ places in Des Moines.

I only go for the BBQ pork or beef sandwich, they are both great. I also like the beans and the sugar biscuits. I have tried the grinder and was disappointed, tonight my wife tried the pizza and was not impressed.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Very basic, food ok. We went for lunch and didn't drink but looks like they have a good special on Saturday 2$ bottle beer.

I got the half slab meal with baked beans and fries. The ribs came with lots of sauce cooked on them. the way I like them the best. Best ribs in Des Moines. Baked beans had a deep taste that was really good. Fries were just normal.

Went last night with the family, using a Groupon (painless process). We had a Sauceman's Favorite pizza which was quite good/unique. Would have preferred a slightly crispier crust, but their thin crust was pretty decent. We like the sauce, although reading through other reviews it is not a universal winner. We also had a full rack of ribs. I have to admit, it was disappointing BBQ vs. other local favorites such as Jethro's or Smokey D's. Mustards is more grilled vs. BBQ, not bad, just doesn't cut it anymore. Sauce was a solid sweeter one that was quite good. Glad we had a Groupon, but just don't see the need to go back otherwise.

This place has none of the character it used to have. The new owners have really let the place go. Ever since the original owner passed away in 2001, the place has never been the same. It is a real shame because it used to be the best place in town for BBQ, pizza, and great friendly service. If wanting to try this place out, just know they cut corners and don't pay attention to the details that mean the most

not the best, not the worst. definitely i have had better ribs. i think they need to re-vamp their menu.... it seems like a chain type place. just not the same as it used to be. for some reason they hide their forks and spoons. and the ac was too cold. the fries are great, and the italian sausage sandwich was a 6 on a sclae of 10. very kid friendly.

Absolutely dreadful all-around. Mustard's was one of the most disappointing meals I've ever paid money for. I ordered a pizza, which turned out awful. The pizza sauce was worse than Domino's. It goes without saying that salad should be avoided at all costs. Most of the people I know who like Mustard's enjoy the barbeque, but even that seems to vary from mediocre to poor. The atmosphere is casual - the type of place where you order at a counter, and someone brings your order to the table. The service is fine, though the ambience (mostly due to wandering kids) is not very relaxing. Mustard's struck me as the type of place to take your kids, or adults who are fearful of flavor and adventure. Horrifyingly, I'd just as soon have gone to McDonalds.

A very casual joint located in the renovated portion of Windsor Heights. We went on a Saturday night, and received an entire 13" pizza in around 10 minutes. The food was just fine, as was the service. Perfect place for a loose dining experience.

Mustard's serves good food in a family friendly setting at family friendly prices. It is always reliable and never disappoints.

My dad used to take us to the original location all the time when I was younger. I loved it. Fucking loved it. They had the best sugar rolls. And their sauce is damn good. But, time takes it's toll and they expanded. Sold the original location(and all of it's dirty greatness) and opened a couple new ones. Then something happened and they all closed. Then this location sprung, under new ownership I believe. So, the sauce is the same, good. But, everything else is lacking. Ribs are usually dry/burnt. The menu is the same, so the classics are still there, but now they're just another average dining location. When I lived in West Des Moines, I used them as a standby for delivery. Your food will be cold, but you never had to leave the couch. I recommend The Hammer.

This place single handedly made me believe that Des Moines was completely barbecue ignorant. Luckily this myth was dispelled by other, far better restaurants in town. I just don't understand the appeal of this wholly unmemorable and overpriced glorified fast food. I felt like I was at an expensive and nicely decorated McDonalds.

Review starts given with consideration to what this place is, informal family place. They talk a lot about the barbeque here, but I consider it mediocre. The stars are the sandwiches. Hot dogs, Polish sausage, Italian sausage, steak, and burgers are where it's at. The pizza used to be great, but has fallen on hard times, in my opinion. If it is properly done, which it seems to seldom be, it is okay, but not great, in my opinion. Des Moines has some great pizza's, it isn't good to eat pizza that is just okay. Although you order at a counter and they bring out the food, the servers, I guess you would call them, are usually quite good. They are very quick to correct a mistake or to help you in other ways. That is good because there seems to be more mistakes than in most places that I go. Lots of choices of condiments/toppings on the sandwich. It is an adventure, just to pick them. Fun place, good sandwiches, good people, fairly reasonable prices.

Have only been here once, but I remember it being quite good. You walk in and place your order right away at the cashier. Then you are given a number and you go find yourself a nice cozy seat and wait for your meal to be delivered. They serve some decent italian dishes and water, pop, beer, etc for your beverage choice
